Easy Peasy Cobbler Cake!

This is one of the easiest recipes you will ever make.  There is no mixing, beating or stirring and very little measuring!   It's so easy it makes a perfect recipe to get the children involved in.  They can do this one, pretty much by themselves, with the exception of taking it in and out of the oven.

Some call this a "Dump Cake", but my family advised me to call it something a little more appetizing for you all!   The word "dump" has so many connotations in our language and none of them are really appetizing!   Therefore, I have made it one of my easy peasy recipes!   This is a cake that has a cobbler like consistency and it's absolutely delicious with a scoop of ice cream on it!   Here is what you will need for this:

1  (20 oz.) can of crushed pineapple, do not drain
1 (21 oz.) can of cherry pie filling (can use whatever other flavor you like also)
1 (18.5 oz.) box yellow cake mix
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 cup butter (2 sticks) cut in thin slices, about 12 pats each stick
1 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)

Preheat oven to 350.

Spray a 9"x13" baking pan with nonstick spray.

Pour the crushed pineapple in the bottom.  Do not drain it.

Spoon the pie filling evenly over the pineapple.

Sprinkle the cake mix evenly over the pie filling.
Sprinkle with the cinnamon.
Cover the cake mix with the pats of butter.
Sprinkle with the chopped nuts.
Place in the oven and bake for 1 hour.

This is best served warm with ice cream!

  1. What other flavor could you use? I do not like cherries.

    1. any canned fruit works, I have never used cherry, but that sounds good to me also..

    2. Use any kind of fruit or berry pie filling you like. I've always called it dump cake.

    3. It would be great made with Blueberry pie filling!!

    4. You could use, Blackberry pie filling, Blueberry pie filling, Peach pie filling, Apple pie filling, any fruit pie filling would work, I think. You have to consider it going with the pineapple, in the bottom of the pan. I believe they all would work, though.

  2. I love this cake/cobbler. I've always called it dump cake.

  3. Do you make the cake mix or put it on top dry?

  4. I dont care for cherries tht much but this is great!! loved it... made it 2day

  5. Years ago when this recipe first came out,Dump Cake, we used a can of un drained fruit cocktail and any other can of fruit we chose, pick 2. cans of fruit, do not drain, place on bottom of 9x13 greased cake pan, 1. cake mix, we always used a yellow cake mix, spread the (DRY) cake mix over the fruit, DO NOT MIX, layer your two sticks of butter pats over the DRY cake mix.Bake at 350, we skipped on the cinnamon and nuts. You can use 2 of the same fruits..Like peaches, or apple, apple is our favorite with the cinnamon..

  6. Do you use crushed pineapple in syrup or juice?

  7. Use whatever you prefer as far as the pineapple. The juice keeps it from being too sweet and saves a few calories.
