I use corn instead of green beans , diced stewed tomatoes instead of tomato soup , and I add some of the cheese to the hamburger mix before topping it with potatoes and more cheese . Most of the time I use real mashed potatoes but I've made it with instant ( to save time) and no one seemed to noticed a difference .<br /> This is a recipe you can play with and make it your own .Theresa Ahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04484806227799972997noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4001048742448308736.post-80431417754928868282015-07-25T11:15:36.478-05:002015-07-25T11:15:36.478-05:00Yes, regular condensed can without adding water.Yes, regular condensed can without adding water.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4001048742448308736.post-9552898775465089982015-07-25T11:14:57.685-05:002015-07-25T11:14:57.685-05:00Yes, I always use instant.

For cottage pie, make pretty much as above but just use the ground chuck, finely chopped onions and a couple of beef bullion cubes with salt and pepper to taste. Brown it all up, drain off excess fat and throw in a couple diced carrots and a handful of frozen peas and half a cup of water. Bring to boil, simmer for about 40 minutes. If it's still a little on the watery side (usually is) add enough cornflour to bring it to the same thickness as the hamburger pie filling. Meanwhile mash your potatoes with about 2oz butter and enough pouring cream to make them light and fluffy. Season with some pepper and spread over the meat. Bung it in the oven as per hamburger pie and you're done. Enjoy. My Scots/Irish parents will be spinning in their graves to hear this but, truthfully, having had the hamburger pie now i find the shepherds pie a wee bit bland😊aileennoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4001048742448308736.post-82500460299920623292013-09-18T20:29:53.181-05:002013-09-18T20:29:53.181-05:00I also grew up on this, (sort of).
